Peter Dummett – Chief Executive Officer

Following a 20 year career in the Royal Australian Navy, Peter settled in Darwin in 1997 and has been primarily engaged in management positions within the shipping industry.  

Peter spent six years with Swire Shipping as Business Development Manager for the Northern Territory, Western Australia and South Australia. During that time he was heavily involved in the development of the AustralAsia Trade route concept.  Peter was also a member of the International Business Council during this period including 2 years as Deputy Chairperson.

Following his time with Swire Shipping Peter joined Perkins Shipping as the Coastal Trades Manager and continued in this role following the acquisition of the business by Toll.

Peter joined Darwin Port in 2011 and was initially responsible for trade development, including the cruise and defence sectors, property management and media and stakeholder liaison.

Peter was appointed the Chief Executive officer at Darwin Port in September 2022 after acting in the position during the processing period.

 

Ian Niblock – General Manager Operations

 

Captain Ian Niblock is a Master Mariner with 44 years marine industry experience with a pilotage focus and holds a Graduate Diploma in Business (Port and Terminal Management).  Ian was appointed Darwin Harbourmaster in 2010 and took up the position of General Manager Operations in 2012 where he manages all marine operations.  Ian also has considerable experience in marine emergency response management having been incident controller during some high profile international incidents.

Rhys Jones - General Manager Strategy and Growth

Rhys is a Chartered Professional Engineer with experience in a range of marine operations, construction and asset management roles. Prior to joining Darwin Port as General Manager Engineering, Rhys worked at Rio Tinto Iron Ore as the Asset Management and Engineering Services Superintendent at Dampier Port after previously holding the role of Senior Port Engineer across all of Rio's Pilbara Ports.  Rhys has also held roles with Inpex Corporation in the construction of the Ichthys LNG Project, as well as working in a specialist maritime consultancy for 7 years servicing a range of clients in the mining, oil & gas and public sectors.

Sarah-Jane Archdale – General Manager Legal & Governance  

Sarah-Jane Archdale joined Darwin Port in September 2016 previously working in private practice in both Australia and London.  During the course of her career, Sarah-Jane has specialised in construction and major projects advising on construction, infrastructure and energy contracts as well as providing procurement advice. Sarah-Jane has been involved with a broad range of international projects in Europe, Asia and Australia.

As General Manager Legal, Sarah-Jane is responsible for providing legal and contractual advice for Darwin Port.

Wayne Bodkin - Senior Manager Landside Operations & Safety

Wayne commenced with Darwin Port in 2006 and was appointed as the Port Security Supervisor in 2008, responsible for the management of the port's security department. Wayne was appointed as the Port Security Manager in 2012 adding the position of Port Security Officer to his responsibilities. Wayne has over 20 years' experience in various operational and management roles across the security industry. Wayne was appointed as the Work Health Safety Environment and Security Manager in April 2019 and joined the leadership team, he is responsible for the relevant port management systems and compliance with health, safety, environment and security policy and legislation. Wayne was appointed as the Senior Manager Landside Operations & Safety in October 2020 he retains his previous responsibilities adding landside operations and the pilot vessel work group to his team. 

Ryan Akers - Senior Manager - Maintenance - Engineering 

Ryan joined Darwin port in August 2022, prior to joining the Darwin Port team, Ryan spent more than a decade working for subsidiaries of Australia`s largest Construction Firm in various professional engineering and management roles. During this time, Ryan worked across a multitude of companies providing asset management solutions within the mining, oil & gas, civil construction, and tunnelling sectors. Ryan specialises in whole of life asset management practices and reliability centred maintenance; he holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Shari Alderson – Financial Controller - Business Support Services

Shari joined Darwin Port as the Finance Officer in November 2008 and moved into the Senior Finance Officer role in January 2012, remaining in the role for 10 years whilst working towards completion of her Bachelor of Accounting with Charles Darwin University.  After completing her accounting degree in December 2021, Shari has continued in various senior finance roles within the company and is now responsible for leading the finance team and providing support to all business groups.

Shari has extensive experience in accounting base roles, including audit and financial reporting, as well as system administration for Technology One and Klein.

David Power - Senior Manager of Marine Operations

David is responsible for all waterside operations that promote the safe passage of all commercial, domestic and foreign vessels in the Port of Darwin.  He has a number of high performing teams that report to him including the Darwin Port Pilotage Team, the Pilot Vessel Operations Team, the Harbour Control Team and the Integrated Operations Scheduler.

David has a long-term work career based in Darwin. He has vast marine knowledge that includes offshore and onshore exploration and production in the Timor Sea and at Darwin LNG.  Prior to arriving in Darwin in 2016, David had time working in the USA, UK and SE Asia on various projects and maritime technology development like FLNG and deep water FPSOs.  He has co-authored maritime publications through his association with the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) and the Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO) leading to enhanced maritime safety measures, particularly with the safe handling of liquefied gases.  Prior to the pursuit of a career in oil and gas, he sailed on the Australian registered Bluewater fleet transporting liquefied commodities on various tankers and frequently delivering petroleum products to Darwin.  David joined ASP Ship Management in the early nineties as a cadet and did all his training through the Australian Maritime College, graduating in 1996.   

Simone McInernery – Head of People and Culture

Simone is a seasoned professional with more than two decades of experience in Human Resources Management and Industrial Relations. Presently, she holds the position of Head of People and Culture at Darwin Port where her primary responsibility is managing and coordinating the complete human resource lifecycle for the organisation.

Simone served as a member of the executive team at St John Ambulance Australia (NT) Inc for ten years. During her tenure, she was responsible for overseeing various aspects of human resources, including industrial relations, workplace safety, and payroll management.

Simone began her career in Industrial Relations at the Chamber of Commerce NT, where she helped local businesses navigate through Work Choices and Fair Work. With over a decade of experience in Enterprise Bargaining and Employee Relations, Simone's expertise in Industrial Relations and Human Resources has allowed her to work collaboratively with unions, staff, management, and her team to drive progress through various initiatives.
